At Furzy Paws we love dogs!! We also love Furzedown and our community and neighbours!!
Due to our close proximity to local people we have to operate a zero tolerance policy for vocal dogs.
We recognise a chatty dog is not a bad representation on anyone and most often than not barking occurs during super friendly play. We fully understand that animals have their own personalities and encouraging them to enjoy themselves is our ultimate goal, however we must be clear that chatty dogs unfortunately are not suitable for this particular environment.
To ensure we maximise dog harmony at Furzy Paws and keep this environment suitable for Day Care we must try our best to build a relaxed cohesive pack. By introducing a staged ‘new’ dog induction process we aim to identify individual dogs characters very early on and see how they adapt to the space and pack.
A ‘new’ to Furzy Paws Day Care dog must undergo three varied length sessions monitored by our qualified dog behaviour specialist before enrolment is agreed.
The first session is for a restricted time of just 15 minutes. During this session our qualified dog behaviour specialist will carry out a visual assessment, monitoring their interactions with other dogs, vocal levels, general temperament, obedience, play signals and aggression levels. We need to ensure our environment is right for them.
Dogs can have different characters within different environments so these shorter introduction sessions are important.
Following a successful initial 15 minutes assessment, a 60 minute session can be undertaken.
Following a successful 60 minutes session, a half day session can be booked.
Following a successful half day session, a full day care enrolment is possible.

We love dogs!
Ensuring they are playful, happy, and friendly is our priority. Shy or timid dogs can grow in confidence and fit in well at Furzy Paws. We assess all dogs from the minute we meet them, ensuring that we understand the most appropriate methods of introduction for each individual and which pack suit their needs best. We recommend a few short visits before they come in for their first full day. Our team aim to manage and improve every dogs social capabilities, and truly believe we can enhance their wellbeing.
We do not allow aggressive or dangerous dogs.
We do not allow aggressive play, excessive barking, or dominant behaviour. Our staff use positive reinforcement techniques to maintain a calm energy within each pack/area. We understand that many dogs may be over-excited on their first day so we will work with your dog to teach him/her the rules.
Should you want to tag on any grooming or spa options to your fury friends experience this is simple through our booking page or just let our team know. Please do try and do this in advance as we can’t guarantee space.
Additional information to note for day care
We request that your dog come to our centre with a leash, a well-fitted collar or harness, and ID tags. Pinch and chain collars are allowed, but we will remove them in the Day Care setting for safety reasons.
We do not feed dogs in our care unless they have special requirements - If your dog requires feeding during the day, please bring the food in a container labelled with your dog’s name and feeding instructions. Our system can store all dietary requirements and any information you deem appropriate against your pet. We are also able to administer most medications throughout the day. Please call us for details.
During colder/wetter days, you may wish to provide a coat for your dog.
Vaccinations/Worming and Flea Treatments
For the protection of all the dogs attending Day Care we must insist that all dogs are fully vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas. We require proof of these certificates with copies stored. When registering your dog with us at Day Care you will be required to provide record/evidence of the following:
Record of a full 2 part up to date vaccination.
We recommend dogs are wormed every 3 months (for the protection of the dogs and public health), as well as being flea treated monthly with effective products. Examination will be performed at the assessment to ensure your dog is free from fleas.
Castrated and uncastrated dogs
Generally, it is not advisable to accept dogs in season into Day Care because of the disruption it can cause to other dogs. All adult male dogs should be castrated, and we would expect owners of puppies to have plans to get their dog castrated at an appropriate age. However, we are open to discussing the possibility of taking entire dogs if we believe their behaviour will be acceptable and non-disruptive in the Day Care environment. For the well-being of the dogs in Day Care, management has the right to refuse a dog.
Our centre has done its very best to use sustainable or biodegradable products or materials throughout to minimise our carbon footprint. Furzedown (hence Furzy Paws) is our community and we aim to have a positive impact.
We always welcome feedback and if you feel you wish to leave a comment, please pop it across to us through the contact us section, it will reach the management team.
